Hosui Asian pear (Pyrus pyrifolia) grown in China and marketed under the Singo Pears brand. Selected in #28's count, this variety is distinguished by its round shape, golden-bronze skin and exceptionally crisp, juicy texture. Unlike many European pears, Hosui retains firm, crunchy flesh at eating maturity, delivering a sweet, refreshing and aromatic eating experience.
Organoleptic Properties
Round to slightly flattened fruit with fine bronze, golden to light-brown skin and naturally occurring lenticels. White to cream-colored flesh that is firm, exceptionally crisp and highly juicy. Fresh, delicately floral and fruity aroma. Sweet and refreshing flavor with moderate to low acidity and subtle notes reminiscent of honey, apple and ripe pear.
Suggested Uses
Ideal for fresh consumption, snacks, premium fruit platters, salads, charcuterie, cheese boards, catering, hotels, buffets and foodservice. Its firm texture allows it to be sliced or diced while maintaining excellent structure. Also suitable for pastry, desserts, Asian cuisine, marinades and sauces; grated Asian pear is traditionally used in certain Korean marinades to provide sweetness and help tenderize meat.
Format
C-CTN carton box with an approximate weight of ±10 Kg, #28's count, corresponding to approximately 28 fruits per carton. Selected for size, uniformity, firmness, appearance and commercial quality.
Storage and Handling
Store between 0 and 2 °C with 90–95% relative humidity. Keep refrigerated to maintain its characteristic crisp texture, juiciness and freshness. Protect fruit from impacts and excessive pressure, as internal bruising may occur even when the skin appears intact.
Quality and Selection Criteria
Firm, uniformly shaped fruit that feels heavy for its size, with intact golden-bronze skin and characteristic lenticels. Flesh should be firm, crisp and juicy. Free from significant bruising, soft areas, punctures, dehydration, decay or mechanical damage. Hosui is intended to be enjoyed firm and crisp; it does not need to soften like many European pear varieties before consumption.
Origin
China.
Hosui is a renowned Japanese Asian pear (Pyrus pyrifolia) cultivar developed through plant breeding and released in Japan during the twentieth century. Its name is commonly interpreted as meaning “abundant water”, an appropriate reference to the remarkable juiciness of its flesh. Today, Hosui is commercially grown in several Asian regions, including China, and is particularly valued for its combination of high sweetness, crisp texture, abundant juice and attractive golden-bronze skin. These qualities have made Hosui one of the most recognized Asian pear cultivars for the premium fresh-fruit market.
