Essence® watermelon grown in Oasis, Chihuahua. A seedless triploid hybrid developed by OriGene Seeds, recognized for producing large, uniform, round-to-oval fruit with a dark green striped rind and intensely red flesh. It is particularly valued for its firm, exceptionally crisp texture, high sweetness and outstanding eating quality.

Organoleptic Properties

Firm dark green rind with lighter green striping. Deep red, highly juicy, firm and remarkably crisp flesh. Fresh aroma characteristic of ripe watermelon. Intensely sweet, clean and refreshing flavor with high soluble solids. Independent cultivar evaluations have recorded approximately 12° Brix for Essence, confirming its strong sweetness profile.

Suggested Uses

Ideal for fresh consumption, slices, fruit cubes, fresh beverages, juices, smoothies, salads, buffets, hotels, catering, cocktails, desserts and fresh-cut applications. Its firm, crisp flesh is particularly well suited for foodservice because it maintains good structure after cutting.

Format

Bulk (BLK) per kilogram. Whole fruit selected for size, uniformity, firmness, maturity and excellent commercial quality.

Storage and Handling

Preferably store between 10 and 15 °C in a clean, cool and well-ventilated environment. Protect from impacts, excessive pressure and prolonged direct sunlight. Once cut, refrigerate between 2 and 4 °C and keep properly protected from dehydration and contamination.

Quality and Selection Criteria

Firm fruit that feels heavy for its size, with an intact, well-developed rind. Deep red, firm, crisp and juicy flesh with good sugar development. Free from cracks, severe bruising, soft areas, decay, mechanical damage or signs of overripeness.

Essence® is a seedless triploid watermelon developed by OriGene Seeds, a company specializing in watermelon and melon breeding. The variety was developed to deliver large, uniform fruit with outstanding internal quality, combining deep-red flesh, exceptionally crisp texture, high °Brix and strong postharvest performance. Variety specifications generally report fruit around 8–12 kg, although size varies according to growing region and production conditions. Essence has also shown intermediate tolerance to Powdery Mildew. In an NC State evaluation of 31 watermelon cultivars, Essence achieved the highest marketable yield in the trial and ranked among the sweetest entries, averaging 12° Brix.
