Blueberry | Berries | Guanajuato CRB-Tray Clamshells 12– 6 Oz
Fresh blueberries grown in Guanajuato, Mexico. These small berries are characterized by their attractive blue to bluish-purple coloration, firm and juicy texture, and pleasant balance of sweetness and acidity. Their convenient size, pit-free nature and ease of consumption make them particularly versatile for retail, foodservice, bakery applications and direct consumption.
Organoleptic Properties
Small, round berries with a smooth surface, blue to bluish-purple coloration and a characteristic whitish natural bloom covering the skin. This waxy coating develops naturally on the fruit and should not be considered dirt or a quality defect.
The skin is thin yet resilient, protecting a soft, juicy, pale to light-green flesh. Flavor is sweet, fresh and mildly tart, with intensity varying according to cultivar, maturity and growing conditions. Aroma is delicate, fruity and characteristic.
Suggested Uses
Ideal for fresh consumption, lunch boxes, breakfast, buffets, fruit platters, bowls, yogurt, oatmeal, granola and cereals. Widely used in bakery and pastry applications including muffins, pancakes, waffles, pies, cheesecakes, cakes and breads.
Blueberries are also suitable for salads, sauces, compotes, jams, coulis, smoothies, beverages, cocktails, ice cream and desserts. They may be frozen for subsequent beverage, bakery and culinary applications.
Format
Cardboard Tray (-CRB-TR) containing 12 × 170 Gr (6 Oz) clamshells. Approximate total net content: 2.04 Kg per carton.
Storage and Handling
Keep refrigerated, ideally at approximately 0–2 °C, with high relative humidity and appropriate air circulation throughout the cold chain. Avoid condensation, excessive surface moisture, prolonged exposure to heat and significant temperature fluctuations.
For optimum shelf life, keep berries dry and unwashed during storage. Wash only immediately before consumption or use. Once washed, remove excess water and use within a short period.
Blueberries are particularly susceptible to mold development in the presence of free moisture; therefore, clamshells should remain clean, refrigerated and properly ventilated.
Quality and Selection Criteria
Select berries that are firm, plump, dry, intact and uniformly colored, preferably retaining a visible natural bloom. Stem scars should be dry, and berries should remain free-flowing without juice leakage.
Avoid soft, shriveled, wet, crushed or split berries, as well as fruit showing mold, fermentation or juice leakage. Significant bloom loss may indicate excessive handling, although bloom loss alone does not necessarily indicate internal deterioration.
Origin
Mexico.
Blueberries primarily belong to species and hybrids within the genus Vaccinium. Their characteristic blue coloration is associated with natural pigments known as anthocyanins, concentrated mainly in the skin. The delicate whitish coating known as bloom consists of naturally occurring surface waxes produced by the fruit itself and forms part of its protective barrier against moisture loss and environmental factors. For this reason, a well-preserved bloom is generally considered a desirable characteristic of fresh, minimally handled blueberries.
