Storage and Handling
Store in a cool, dry, clean place protected from light, with the package properly sealed. For Chilean Thompson raisins, storage at temperatures not exceeding approximately 18 °C (64 °F) under dry conditions is recommended. Proper storage helps preserve texture, color and flavor while reducing clumping, sugar crystallization and deterioration.
Quality and Selection Criteria
As a CAT 1, #Jumbo product, raisins should be large, clean, well developed and reasonably uniform, with a diameter exceeding 12 mm, a flexible and fleshy texture and characteristic naturally sweet flavor. Product should be free from mold, fermentation, infestation, rancid or foreign odors and extraneous material. Natural variation between golden and brown shades may occur as a result of the drying process and should not by itself be considered a defect. Land Growers Chile
Origin
Chile
Thompson Seedless, also known as Sultana, is one of the world's most important grape varieties for raisin production because of its seedless character and desirable properties after dehydration. Portal Frutícola Chile has developed a specialized export industry for dried Thompson grapes, including the premium Jumbo >12 mm size. Particularly relevant to this product, scientific research on Chilean raisins specifically used Jumbo Thompson raisins produced by Frutexsa in Chile's Aconcagua Valley, confirming the variety, Jumbo classification and Chilean production associated with Frutexsa®.
